Radio Maria Tanzania began its official broadcasts on April 26, 1996, in the Archdiocese of Songea, located in southern Tanzania. What started as a small radio station has, through the grace and support of God, its listeners, and sponsors, grown significantly. From humble beginnings akin to a mustard seed (Matthew 13:31-32), it now reaches a vast area of the United Republic of Tanzania, broadcasting on approximately 12 frequencies—ten for the mainland and two for the islands. Among church-related radio stations in Tanzania, Radio Maria holds the top position in terms of coverage and listener engagement.

The programming of Radio Maria is structured into four main categories: Liturgy, which encompasses all aspects of prayer, the celebration of the Holy Mass, and the Holy Rosary; Church/Religious Teachings; Social Education/Worldly Knowledge; and lastly, it provides entertainment and news. This diverse range of offerings illustrates its commitment to both spiritual enrichment and community engagement.
